Kensington – Chinatown
Description
This neighbourhood first emerged as a Jewish quarter and marketplace in the early 1900s, with a large wave of Chinese immigrants in the 1950s and 1960s transforming Spadina into the grand Chinatown it is now. With wave after wave of new immigrants, the area is now a vibrant neighbourhood with restaurants and shops offering flavours from all over the world. Spadina still has a strong Asian bent with many Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants, grocers, and housewares shops. Kensington is truly diverse, with restaurants, nightspots, vintage clothing stores, grocers, dry goods shops, and cozy cafes.
